  5. If you mean the V series Hayes, yes... at 2400bps. If you mean the Hayes
  6. Ultra, again yes... at 2400. Perhaps you are confusing v.42 with v.32?

  16. Paragraph 1... I have no idea what you are talking about!  What exactly
  17. are you upgrading, an HST?

  19. Paragraph 2... Yep, an Ultra will connect at 9600 with a Dual Standard
  20. using v.32. That is the standard. But the connects are at 9600, still ~50%
  21. slower transfers than with the HST-HST connect.

  23. As for what you gain with v.42, it is similar (but superior) to MNP. And
  24. with v.42bis you get 'intelligent' compression. You can leave it on and
  25. transfer ZIP files w/o the slowdown you see with MNP5. It senses the
  26. files is compressed and doesn't try to out-compress Phil Katz. Now, that IS
  27. smart!

  29. One thing that might help is to switch to &K3. Your &K1 gives you MNP5
  30. which you DON'T want.

  38. Using a 14.4k HST, I always get my fastest transfer speeds with &K0
  39. and ZmodemMobyTurbo...if you want text to scroll fast however, you
  40. will need to have compression on, so I would suspect you are right
  41. about the &K3 setting, it does make text fly....

  46. Yep unless you &A3 you will connect fine with V.42 but it won't show on
  47. the connect message. It's getting to have so much info that the dialer
  48. windows on most prg's don't room to display the whole connect string.
